Brace yourself for the definitive, boundary-pushing journey across the wild spine of Sumatra. This epic 16-Day 15-Night Wilderness & Mountaineering Expedition is a masterfully curated loop engineered for raw adventurers, wildlife purists, and high-altitude trekkers. This itinerary bridges the iconic river sanctuaries of the north with the soaring volcanic peaks of the south, traveling through territories rarely seen by mainstream tourism.
Your odyssey begins with deep rainforest immersion: washing and feeding rescued elephants in Tangkahan, tracking wild Orangutans through the ancient canopies of Bukit Lawang, and scaling the volcanic ridges of Berastagi. Cross the majestic Tele highway to unravel the megalithic mysteries of Batak culture on Samosir Island (Lake Toba), before charting a massive cross-island course over the Equator Line at Bonjol and into the cultural heartland of Bukittinggi.
The grand finale of this expedition takes you deep into the pristine cloud forests of the Jambi border to conquer Mount Kerinci (3,805 meters)—Indonesia’s highest volcano and the undisputed roof of Sumatra. Trekking through dense habitats where the elusive Sumatran tiger still roams and standing above the clouds at sunrise, this is the ultimate, bucket-list Sumatran crossing.
